Basic Function
Under the direction of an administrator or manager, assists in planning and preparing meals for the Child Development Center; assists with maintaining inventory and procuring of supplies to ensure proper nutritional meals are served to children during classroom and daycare activities.
Representative Duties
Prepares meals (breakfast, lunch, and afternoon and/or early evening supplements), for the children in the Child Development Center. E
Assists in the planning, preparation, and storage of foods in accordance with guidelines set by the State Nutrition Program. E
Maintains a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with proper Health Department Regulations, Occupation Safety standards, and College prepared standards in the operation of the food services program of the Child Development Center. E
Records specialized information for documentation purposes. E
Assists in shopping for necessary supplies for use in the meal program. E
Performs a variety of clerical and administrative responsibilities in support of the department's day-to-day activities and/or operations utilizing a variety of communication modalities including but not limited to answers and responds to phone calls, emails, text messages, and chat platforms; opens, screens, and distributes mail and correspondence; photocopies documents and requests duplication services; ensures maintenance and repairs of assigned work areas, facilities, or equipment; enters various requests for services from IT, Facilities, and Maintenance; contacts vendors for equipment service, when needed; follows-up with vendors to ensure satisfactory completion of requests; may perform simple repairs or maintenance to standard office equipment. Distinguishable Characteristics
The Child Development Center Food Service Worker is the entry-level classification within the Child Development Center Food Service series. The incumbent assists with a variety of program responsibilities including but not limited to meal planning, preparation, and service to children, submitting procurement requests for supplies, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment for children and staff.
The Child Development Center Food Service Worker is distinguished from the Senior Food Service Worker in that the latter is the senior, lead level classification within the Child Development Center Food Service Worker series. The incumbent plans, prepares, and schedules meals and snacks; performs administrative responsibilities related to the nutritional program including ensuring the Food Service Program meets the nutritional and health requirements of the program; prepares reports and responds to audits on behalf of the program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees are frequently required to walk/stand for extended periods of time; hear and speak; lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy trays, carts and supplies weighing approximately 25 pounds, and with assistance up to approximately 50 pounds; reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; bend at the waist, kneel or crouch; use sight to monitor food quality and quantity and count money.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this class, incumbents are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data; use math and mathematical reasoning; analyze and solve problems; learn and apply new information and skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with District, students, vendors and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom are dissatisfied or abusive.

Employees work under typical kitchen and cafeteria environment, with constant interruptions, noise level may vary depending on activities; subject to heat from ovens and cold from refrigerators or freezers; exposure to hot foods and equipment; work with knives, slicers, or other sharp objects; exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes; occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
