What youll do on a typical day

The Child Development Center Staff II, Lead Teacher (10 month) has primary responsibility for effective design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early care and education environment. This position reports directly to the Director of the Child Development Center (CDC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Child Development & Teaching Practices

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates developmentally appropriate learning environments and experiences for pre-Kindergarten children
  • Applies research-based best practices in early care and education which incorporates appropriate practices into each child's daily experiences.
  • Implements a variety of teaching strategies and maintains stimulating, well-organized classroom spaces, materials, and equipment.
  • Documents and assesses children's development and learning at the individual and group levels.

Classroom Environment & Program Quality

  • Creates a welcoming, respectful, and supportive learning environment that recognizes and responds to the individual needs and differences of children.
  • Maintains a classroom environment that meets regulatory and compliance requirements, demonstrates program quality standards, and supports children's development and learning.
  • Monitors classroom needs and maintains records and reports necessary to support children's educational plans.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, openness to change, and a commitment to a collaborative, team-based environment.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Provides information, support, resources, and appropriate referrals to families in collaboration with the CDC Director.
  • Provides leadership in planning and implementing activities that promote campus and community involvement.

Student Supervision & Professional Support

  • Supervises Davidson-Davie students in Early Childhood and other programs of study, providing timely and appropriate feedback related to classroom assignments, observations, and internships.
  • Participates in the orientation and mentoring of new CDC teachers.

Professional Development

  • Pursues ongoing professional development according to college standards
  • Applies current knowledge and best practices to classroom practice.

Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.

Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings

Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College.

Your attributes

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • A North Carolina B-K Initial License
  • NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC)
  • Currently enrolled with EESLPD (If applicant is not currently enrolled with EESLPD, the enrollment process must take place before the applicant can begin employment)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an Early Childhood setting
  • 2-3 years of Teaching experience in B-K

Work environment

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.
