    Childcare Worker

    Reports to:                       Unit Supervisor

    FLSA Classification:        Non-Exempt

    Position Summary:        

    Provides direct childcare services, ensure that day-to-day supervision of youth is consistent with agency standards and effectively works as a member of an interdisciplinary team.  Assumes the role of Cottage Supervisor in their absence

    Essential Functions:

    • Model and act in accordance with BCC’s core values.
    • Consistently implements each youth’s care plan and completes documentation as required.
    • Accurately administers medication according to physician and/or nurse’s orders and documents the medication administration record (MAR.)
    • Actively encourages and reinforces youth’ participation in maintaining established standards of cleanliness and orderliness in their living unit and the surrounding campus.
    • Ensures that each youth’s health needs are identified and met within the specified time frame.
    • Actively encourages and supports each youth’s need to achieve satisfactory academic performance.
    • Participates in the development of unit activities, recreation activities and spiritual life awareness while providing direct supervision.
    • Provides safe transportation in agency vehicles for youth to keep scheduled appointments.
    • Provides direct mealtime supervision to assure that youth are provided a balanced meal and that dining procedures are consistently followed.
    • Completes a thorough inventory for each youth’s belongings upon admission, discharge and on a quarterly basis.
    • Complete bag searches any time youth return to the program from being in the community, visits, etc.
    • Completes assigned unit system responsibilities and documentation.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance of health and safety standards through weekly on-site inspections according to agency guidelines.
    • Demonstrates the ability to receive, transmit, store and retrieve information as evidenced through written and verbal communication.
    • Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors by implementing the Board of Child Care Behavior Management and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Techniques.
    • Promotes effective communication through the timely submission of documentation and compliance with policy.
    • Provides coverage, as needed, for direct care vacancies.
    • Provides mandatory on-call coverage as required.
    • Fosters quality and diversity in problem identification and conflict resolution among youth and co-workers.
    • Perform duties, as requested, to achieve agency goals.

    Supervisory Responsibility:        

    Assumes the role of Cottage Supervisor in their absence.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a cottage environment.

    In the nature of being at a residential and school living environment there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time position. The hours may vary depending on shift.  Shift information is received from the Unit Supervisor.  This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work. This position is not eligible for flex schedule. This position is essential during snow emergencies. 

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local during working hours, although some out-of-area and overnight travel is rare.

     

    Required Education and Experience

    • Associates Degree or High School Diploma

     

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Service’s field and one year working with children.

     

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    • Able to learn and effectively utilize different technology platforms.
    • Excellent computer use knowledge with Microsoft Windows 10 and 365 Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Proven effective time management, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to problem solve.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook).
    • Ability to pass RCYCP certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass TCI aid certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass CPR/First aid certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver’s license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter.
    • Ability to pass CPS/UII background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
    • Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis both prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance of health and safety standards through weekly on-site inspections according to agency guidelines.
    • Demonstrates the ability to receive, transmit, store and retrieve information as evidenced through written and verbal communication.
    • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication. 
    • Able to engage youth in a positive and therapeutic manner. 
    • Able to provide positive role modeling to youth through attitude, behavior, language and dress in keeping with agency standards. 
    • Able to work cooperatively with supervisor and within an interdisciplinary setting.
