About Oak Lane Christian Church

Oak Lane Christian Church is an independent Christian Church in the Restoration Movement tradition. We are a loving and diverse faith community. We are eager to see what God has in store for us, our community, and the world.

About the Position

Oak Lane Christian Church is seeking a Children's Director to oversee its Children's Ministry (birth-5th grade). We are accepting applications for both full-time and part-time Children's Director positions. The full-time position may also include helping lead the church's social media and communications, depending on the candidate's experience, gifts, and the needs of the church. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Personal

Baptized believer who is in theological alignment with Oak Lane and our Statement of Beliefs
A deep, personal relationship with Jesus as evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit
Willingness to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
Able to take direction and handle constructive criticism well

Professional

Passion for Children's Ministry and Christian education
Proficiency with modern computer programs (Canva, Google Docs, Email)

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred, with preference given to those with degrees in Ministry, Education, Human Services, or related fields

Responsibilities

Leadership & Vision

Oversee all Children's Ministry (birth-5th grade) programming, ensuring excellence and alignment with the mission of Oak Lane Christian Church
Establish goals and objectives that support the mission and vision of Children's Ministry and provide leadership and organizational structure
Develop and maintain policies for the safety and protection of the ministry and those it serves
Advocate for Children's Ministry facilities and needs

Discipleship & Pastoral Care

Teach and model a lifestyle of mission, encouraging children to live out their faith in everyday life
Provide pastoral care for parents, children, and volunteers
Build relationships with children and their families, providing guidance, accountability, and prayer support
Provide parenting guidance, resources, and encouragement for parents to disciple their children at home

Volunteer Management

Oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling
Lead Children's Ministry by coaching, evaluating, and serving alongside volunteers
Cultivate a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility within the ministry
Ensure that policies are clearly communicated and enforced

Programming & Events

Ensure alignment of teachers and curriculum with the theological convictions of Oak Lane Christian Church
Plan and facilitate weekly ministry activities and Children's Ministry events
Participate in church special events and services

Collaboration & Outreach

Collaborate with church staff to ensure teamwork and support of church-wide initiatives through unified ministry efforts
Partner with Student Ministry to create a sense of connected ministry
Establish partnerships with local schools and community organizations to extend the church's influence and connect with the unchurched
Serve as requested on special teams and creative projects that will benefit the ministry of Oak Lane Christian Church

Administration & Communication

Maintain regular office hours as agreed upon with the Senior Minister
Maintain an organized ministry calendar
Manage the Children's Ministry budget and ensure alignment with the church's mission and vision
Use modern tools (social media, email/text, and the church app) to promote ministry events and keep members informed
Perform all other duties as assigned

Additional Information

Why is this Position Available?

This position is becoming available for the first time in over 27 years. With the retirement of our current Children's Director, we are excited to see what the Lord has in store next for Oak Lane and our Kids' Ministry.

Staff Culture

Our staff culture is highly collaborative. Everything is a team effort, and we always try to be supportive of each other. Our staff meetings are on Mondays, and we always begin with a dedicated time to play Cards Christians Like or Holy Guacamole because we believe ministry should include some weekly laughter.

Community

Oak Lane Christian Church is located in a quiet suburb in the greater Memphis metropolitan area, approximately 30 minutes from downtown Memphis. Collierville is known for its historic downtown square and its family-oriented, small-town feel. As part of the greater Memphis area, we are proud of our BBQ, our blues, and everything else that makes Memphis special.
