    Description

    The Choir Director plays a vital role in shaping the worship experience by incorporating choral music that enhances spiritual engagement. This position follows a 9-month schedule, leading rehearsals, performances, and fostering a collaborative choir community.
     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Rehearsal Planning
    • Performance Schedule Planning
    • Provide Musical Direction
    • Collaboration with other artists/musicians
    • Administrative Tasks

    General Leadership Responsibilities:

    • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the choir, encouraging teamwork, camaraderie, and a shared passion for music.
    • Identify and develop musical performances that will enhance the worship experience.
    • Identify, encourage, and integrate members' musical gifts into worship, special events, and faith formation activities.
    • Work in collaboration with all staff.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

    • Bachelor’s degree in music education, choral conducting or a similar field, preferred
    • 3-5 years prior experience conducting choirs, preferred
    • A broad understanding of choral repertoire across different genres, styles and historical periods, preferred
    • Be knowledgeable of the Lutheran confessions and understand the church’s heritage as a whole and also be familiar with and supportive of all worship and faith styles, preferred
    • Have a working knowledge of choral rehearsal techniques and conducting and the ability to work effectively with volunteer choir members, preferred
    • Have a passion for music and choral performance, required
    • Must possess a positive attitude, demonstrate energy and enthusiasm, and be self-motivated to perform the job effectively, required
    • Accompany skills, preferred
    • Professional organization affiliations, e.g. American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), preferred
    • Understands and will comply with copyright laws, required
    • Has experience with coordinating choir performances with an audio/visual technology team, preferred
    • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent applications, preferred.
