Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

A self-starter, the undergraduate recruiter will recruit undergraduate students for the College's undergraduate academic programs for the College of Information and Communications. This includes creating an executing a recruitment strategy to meet enrollment goals.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with working with college students is preferred in one or more of the following areas: program planning; general student affairs administration within a diverse campus in an urban setting; academic advising, curriculum planning and college teaching; supporting and advising graduate students.
  • Knowledge of student development, USC systems, and USC policies and procedures preferred.
  • Experience with social media and search engine optimization tools also preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, electronic mail systems, and online University systems.
  • Detail orientated, self-motivated, and able to work independently and carefully manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with short deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Must have an ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects in a high-volume environment, excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the academic policies and procedures of the University and the College of Information and Communications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required. Effective written and oral communication skills required.
  • Able to work with a diverse student body, faculty, administrators and willingness to work evenings and some weekends is expected.
  • Ability to analyze data, to produce reports, to keep detailed and accurate records, and to maintain confidentiality.

On-Campus Student Engagement

  • Plan, promote, and execute student engagement events (i.e. workshop, movie night).
  • Plan and execute admitted student days for prospective students.
  • Drive engagement with flagship college events (i.e. guest speakers, hackathons).
  • Maintain relationship with exploratory advising to promote new course and major offerings.
  • Utilize all available means to promote CIC majors and minors.

Off-Campus Student Engagement

  • Conduct regular visits with South Carolina high schools targeting classes and clubs with direct interest in information and communication fields.
  • Invite and host high school students for on campus tours and events.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with area technical colleges to promote pathway programs and transfer student enrollment.
  • Engage with USC Palmetto College campuses to promote pathway programs.
  • External visits are expected an average of one day per week during the academic year.

  • Learn and be able to articulate basic academic requirements of CIC undergraduate majors and minors.
  • Become familiar with potential job outcomes for CIC undergraduate majors.
  • Provide examples of student experience (i.e. study abroad and student organizations).
  • Attend regular meetings with university admissions office.

Prospective Student Tours

  • Manage on campus tours for prospective students, parents, and school groups.
  • Coordinate tour offerings with central admissions.
  • Schedule ambassador and/or staff coverage for tours.
  • Ensure printed and presentation materials are up to date and available.

Ambassador Management

  • Lead annual ambassador search, interview, and hiring process.
  • Provide orientation and training for college ambassadors.
  • Manage scheduling and timecard approval for ambassadors.
  • Field requests and schedule ambassadors to support non-recruiting college events.

Contact Nurturing

  • Provide outreach to prospective students following tours and engagement events.
  • Manage email and text distribution and response through Mailchimp.
  • Responding to text and email inquiries as appropriate.
