Summary
A Criminal Investigator is a licensed peace officer certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). An extensive background in all aspects of law enforcement enables the investigator to perform a myriad of duties required of the position. The highest level of professionalism and discretion is a priority due to the investigator's public duties and the sensitive nature of some reports with the Lubbock Sheriff's Office.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. A physical assessment will be required consisting of: a one mile run in under 12 minutes and 30 seconds, 20 pushups in a minute, and 20 sit ups in one minute. A firearms qualification with department issued weapon prior to interview. Physical assessment and Firearms qualification will be waived if already assigned to the Law Enforcement Division as a Deputy.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience as a peace officer; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Three years of experience in accident investigations and patrol is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Intermediate certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Supplemental Information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures; investigation of criminal offenses; criminal justice system; computers; interview and interrogation techniques; and department policies and procedures. Ability to operate computers, including word processing software; read reports, letters and memos; write reports, letters and memos; perform investigative work; interview and interrogate suspects, victims and witnesses; analyze data; reason and draw conclusions; operate office equipment, such as facsimile machine and copy machine; safely handle and qualify with firearms; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, attorneys and personnel of other law enforcement agencies. Effectively use still, digital and video cameras.

The employee may be occasionally called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations. Special vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
