Oxford Solutions is working with a rail technology client seeking a Senior Cisco Network Engineer for a direct hire opportunity. This role will support network and telecommunications design, configuration, testing, and commissioning activities for transportation-related technology projects.
This is an onsite position with travel required, primarily along the East Coast. Candidates should be comfortable traveling approximately 25% to 50% of the time based on project needs.
Responsibilities
Design, configure, test, and support commissioning of telecommunications and network systems
Support project execution according to established schedules, technical requirements, and customer expectations
Work with wired and wireless network architectures, topologies, routing, switching, and communications protocols
Resolve technical interfaces between telecommunications systems and related project systems, such as signaling, rolling stock, and other connected infrastructure
Support field implementation, troubleshooting, and validation of network and communications systems
Review technical documentation, drawings, test plans, and configuration requirements
Assist with network design decisions involving performance, reliability, security, scalability, and system integration
Work with internal engineering teams, project teams, vendors, and customer representatives to resolve technical issues
Support communications engineering activities involving radio frequency systems, fiber optics, digital communications, servers, applications, hardware, and software
Document configurations, test results, technical issues, and commissioning progress
Qualifications
5 to 7 years of network engineering experience, with strong Cisco networking experience
Extensive working knowledge of network design, including wired and wireless networks
Experience with network architectures, topologies, design patterns, constraints, and protocols
Strong working knowledge of switching and routing protocols
Experience supporting wireless communications in demanding or complex environments
Knowledge of fiber optics, digital communications processors, servers, network hardware, software, and related communications technology
Understanding of communications engineering principles, including radio frequency allocations, electromagnetic wave propagation, RF field strength measurements, and tolerances
Ability to support network testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and field implementation
Experience working on large-scale infrastructure, transportation, industrial, or mission-critical systems is a plus
CCNP or equivalent certification preferred
Ability to travel approximately 25% to 50%, primarily along the East Coast
Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
