Purpose & Job Related Requirements

REPORTS TO: Route Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System - Requires satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

PAY GRADE: Depends on qualifications: Recruit: 111, Operator I:112

SAFETY SENSITIVE: CDL - Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to operate a mainline bus or specialized van. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: picking up and dropping off passengers, collecting fares, operating a vehicle along prescribed routes, transporting paratransit/demand response passengers, providing good customer service, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Job Related Requirements

Work Schedule: Varies: Transit hours of operation are 5:30 AM - 10:45 PM / 7 days a week. Daily work schedule is provided to extra board operators 72 hrs in advance. When a permanent shift becomes available all employees will have an opportunity to bid based on seniority.

May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACCs safe driving policy.

Emergency Position

This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Recruit:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Customer service and/or working with the elderly or disabled is preferred.

Must possess a valid drivers license at time of hire.

Must be able to obtain a full valid Georgia Commercial Drivers License(CDL) permit within six(6) weeks of the date of hire. Must also be able to obtain a full valid Georgia CDL with passenger endorsement within four(4) months of the date of hire.

Operator 1:

High school diploma or GED required, with one year of experience in the operation of a mainline bus and/or specialized van preferred

Experience working with the elderly or disabled is also preferred.

Must possess a valid drivers CDL license with Passenger endorsement at time of hire.
