The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department is seeking a City Traffic Engineer! THE DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department consists of over 500 budgeted FTEs and is responsible for the design, construction, renovation and operation of public projects and facilities ranging from seawalls to wastewater treatment plants; sewers; storm drains; water; parks; facilities; and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, and street landscapes. The Department’s executive team is committed to delivering projects and programs that enhance the quality of life, economic growth, and the environment for all residents. The Public Works Department is comprised of several divisions with an operating and capital budget of $364 million for FY 2025-26.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Senior Engineer in that it provides management of complex, sensitive and/or citywide projects and may provide direct supervision of engineers and technical staff.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
As assigned, incumbents supervise professional, paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Receives general supervision and is expected to prioritize work to meet deadlines and to keep the supervisor informed of issues that would impact achievement of a deadline, organizational policy or procedure or in consideration of risk management.
