Civil Construction Estimator - Construction - Base Salary to 110k/year - Richland County, Columbia, SC

  • AllSearch Recruiting is searching for a Civil Construction Estimator for our client in Columbia, SC (Richland County). The Civil Construction Estimator will have 3+ years of civil construction estimating experience, will work onsite and will focus on heavy civil construction, site work, underground utilities, drainage systems, and roadway development.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare competitive cost estimates for site development and heavy civil construction projects including grading, excavation, utilities, drainage, and roadway work.
  • Estimate projects typically ranging from $500k to $10M, ensuring accurate cost projections and competitive bid submissions.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing for self-performed work, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop comprehensive estimates for all phases of site construction.
  • Develop conceptual, schematic, and final contract estimates, adjusting scope and pricing as additional project information becomes available.
  • Evaluate site conditions, construction risks, and logistical constraints and incorporate these factors into cost projections and bid strategies.
  • Identify potential constructability challenges during the preconstruction phase and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Collaborate with project management, operations, and field teams to ensure estimates align with actual construction methods, production rates, and equipment capabilities.
  • Research and recommend value engineering opportunities to improve project efficiency and cost effectiveness while maintaining quality standards.
  • Maintain organized documentation of takeoffs, assumptions, subcontractor pricing, and supporting estimate data for internal review and project handoff.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain pricing, clarify scopes, and support successful bid preparation.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience estimating civil construction or site development projects for a construction GC.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience estimating grading, underground utilities, drainage systems, and general site development projects.
  • Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe for estimate development, bid documentation, and reporting.
  • Experience with takeoff and modeling software such as Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites within South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia as needed.

Compensation: 

  • Base salary in the 90k - 110k/year range
  • 401k available with a 4% match.
  • 90% of the health insurance costs for employees.

  • Estimators will be paid mileage if any travel to jobsites is required. (Very rare)
  • 2 weeks of PTO after a 90-day probationary period.
  • PTO increases with time employed.
  • Annual bonus is tied to the company and the individual’s performance.
