    Job Description

    The Civil Construction Manager is responsible for leading large-scale heavy civil projects, including mass earthwork, underground utilities, transportation infrastructure, water resources, and site development projects throughout the Southeastern United States. This individual ensures that projects are delivered safely, within budget, on time, and in accordance with design specifications. The role demands expertise in managing field operations, maintaining stakeholder relationships, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills are essential to effectively guide projects from initiation through completion.

    Work Environment:

    Work is performed both indoors and outside in all types of environmental conditions. This position performs strenuous physical activity, for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions. This position must be able to lift and/or carry up to 75 lbs., stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.

    • Lead and oversee all field operations for large-scale heavy civil construction projects, including mass earthwork, site development, underground utilities, storm drainage, water management systems, and related civil infrastructure work.
    • Lead and direct Senior Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel to ensure safe, productive, and efficient project execution.
    • Manage all aspects of project delivery, including safety, quality, schedule, production, cost control, equipment utilization, and workforce planning.
    • Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials to achieve project milestones and maximize operational efficiency.
    • Serve as the primary field representative with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders, building strong relationships and resolving complex project issues.
    • Review and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, contracts, and technical documents to ensure work is performed in compliance with project requirements.
    • Establish project productivity goals, monitor performance metrics, and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain schedule and budget objectives.
    • Drive a culture of safety excellence by ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific safety programs.
    • Identify, evaluate, and resolve field challenges involving production, logistics, subcontractor performance, manpower, equipment, and constructability.
    • Participate in hiring, workforce planning, performance management, coaching, succession planning, and development of field leadership personnel.
    • Support preconstruction and project startup efforts through constructability reviews, quantity verification, resource planning, and operational input.
    • Travel as required to project sites throughout the Southeastern United States and provide leadership during critical phases of project execution.

    Required Experience

    • High School Diploma or GED required

    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive heavy civil construction experience with significant experience at the Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, or equivalent leadership level.

    • Demonstrated success managing large-scale civil construction projects involving one or more of the following:

    • Mass earthwork and grading

    • Underground utility installation

    • Storm drainage systems

    • Site development

    • Transportation infrastructure

    • Water resources projects

    • Landfill construction or closures

    • Dams, reservoirs, levees, or pump stations

    • Environmental remediation projects

    • Experience leading multiple Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and large field crews on complex projects.

    • Proven track record delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
