Civil Designer

Contract-to-Hire Opportunity
Location: Bloomington, MN

Our client is seeking a skilled Civil Designer to join their growing team in Bloomington, MN. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers the chance to work on a wide variety of civil engineering and land development projects supporting diverse clients and industries. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical design experience, proficiency with industry-standard software, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary project environment.

Position Summary

The Civil Designer will perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, preparation of figures and construction plans/specifications, and report preparation as part of a project team. This role will support projects ranging from site development and utility design to roadway and stormwater infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design civil engineering projects including:
  • Site development and land development
  • Roadway design
  • Storm drainage systems
  • Stormwater management facilities
  • Water and sanitary sewer utility systems
  • Sediment and erosion control
  • Traffic control
  • Facility design
• Prepare construction drawings, layouts, specifications, and related documentation.
• Execute civil design assignments using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other applicable software tools.
• Develop and refine drawings from sketches, markups, and engineering direction.
• Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical/geologic data to support project planning and design.
• Incorporate applicable design codes, standards, and specifications into project deliverables.
• Review design drawings and deliverables for quality assurance within established scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Perform volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading activities.
• Support project scheduling, budgeting, and design coordination efforts.
• Maintain organized project files, drawings, and documentation.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers to resolve design issues and support project objectives.
• Assist with revisions and updates to project drawings and documentation throughout project lifecycle.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field with 7+ years of related experience; OR
• Associate Degree with 8+ years of related experience; OR
• 9+ years of progressive detailing and civil design experience.
• Expert proficiency with:
  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D
  • MicroStation
  • Microsoft Excel
• Strong understanding of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
• Working knowledge of related engineering disciplines and coordination requirements.
• Experience developing construction plans and technical design deliverables.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
