Civil Designer
Location: Bloomington, MN

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join their team in Bloomington, MN on a Contract-to-Hire basis. This position will support a variety of civil engineering projects and will be responsible for civil design, drafting, plan development, calculations, and construction documentation.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, a solid understanding of civil engineering design principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and other designers in a multidisciplinary project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform various phases of civil engineering planning, site evaluations, design, drafting, and construction documentation.
- Design civil engineering projects including:
- Site development and land development
- Roads and transportation-related improvements
- Storm drainage systems
- Stormwater management facilities
- Water and sanitary sewer utilities
- Sediment and erosion control
- Traffic control
- Facility design
- Develop detailed civil design drawings, layouts, figures, and construction plans using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and related software.
- Execute civil design assignments using established methods, standards, and techniques, including drawing development, system sizing, and refinement of preliminary sketches.
- Incorporate design changes, revisions, and markups into project drawings.
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, testing information, and topographical and geological data to support project planning and design.
- Apply applicable design codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements.
- Perform and report volume calculations for excavation, dredging, grading, and other earthwork activities.
- Review project schedules, budgets, criteria, and requirements and incorporate them into civil designs and layouts.
- Perform quality reviews of design drawings within established project scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Maintain project drawings, plot files, and related project information in an organized and structured manner.
- Coordinate design and drawing production activities with project managers, engineers, designers, and other project team members.
- Identify and resolve design and drawing issues in collaboration with the project team.
- Support multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with 7 years of relevant experience, OR
- Associate degree with 8 years of relevant experience, OR
- 9 years of progressive detailing and civil design experience.
- Expert-level proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
- Expert knowledge of civil engineering design theory, practices, standards, and procedures.
- Understanding of fundamental concepts associated with other engineering disciplines as they relate to civil design.
- Ability to operate discipline-specific design software necessary to produce project deliverables.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality design deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale engineering, infrastructure, industrial, or commercial projects.
- Experience preparing construction plans and specifications.
- Experience with grading, stormwater, utilities, drainage, and site development design.
- Experience working within established project budgets and schedules.
- Experience coordinating design deliverables across multiple disciplines.
