Job Title: Civil Engineer
Job Description
This role leads and supports site civil and land development projects from concept through completion. The Civil Engineer provides technical guidance on design, prepares and reviews detailed plans, and ensures all work complies with regulatory and permitting requirements. The position collaborates closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, conducts occasional site visits and inspections, and plays a key role in project execution and team development within a highly collaborative office environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support site civil and land development projects from initial planning through final delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight on site civil design, land development, grading, stormwater management, and drainage design.
- Prepare and review site plans, subdivision layouts, and drainage designs to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
- Ensure all projects comply with applicable regulatory requirements and permitting processes, including coordination with reviewing agencies.
- Collaborate closely with internal engineering, surveying, and design teams, as well as external stakeholders and clients.
- Conduct occasional site visits and field inspections to verify design assumptions, observe construction progress, and address issues in the field.
- Play a key role in project execution by developing schedules, monitoring progress, and helping to ensure projects meet quality, budget, and timeline expectations.
- Support and mentor team members, contributing to the professional development of less experienced staff.
- Participate in land development and site planning efforts for both private and municipal projects, with a primary focus on private development.
- Assist with surveying-related coordination as needed, particularly where survey data informs site planning and drainage design.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external parties to clarify project requirements, resolve issues, and maintain strong working relationships.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of civil engineering experience, with 10+ years preferred.
- Strong experience in site civil engineering, land development, and drainage design.
- Demonstrated expertise in stormwater management, grading, site civil design, and drainage design.
- Experience preparing and reviewing site plans, subdivision layouts, and related civil design documents.
- Experience in permitting, regulatory compliance, and subdivision planning.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certification with a clear intention to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Ability to manage projects and oversee the work of others, not solely perform hands-on design tasks.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate with surveyors and other technical staff to integrate survey data into design work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or similar design and mapping tools.
- Experience working on land development and site planning projects.
- Exposure to both municipal (small portion) and private development (majority) projects.
- Interest in gaining additional hours and experience under a PE to support PE licensure.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
