We are currently seeking a full-time, exempt Civil Engineer in Training (EIT) in the Dallas office. As a Civil Engineer, you will work on civil projects for municipal governments and private developments. The ideal candidate will work closely with Designers and Professional Engineers to create civil drawings under the direction of Project Managers as you learn skills to become one yourself.

Expected Duties

In this role you can expect to perform the following tasks.  This is not an exhaustive list:
  • Analyze and interpret survey reports, plats, maps, construction drawings, aerial imagery, and other topographic or geotechnical data to support site and infrastructure design.
  • Plan and design transportation, utility, and hydraulic systems (streets, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and drainage facilities) in accordance with applicable municipal, state, and federal standards using industry-standard design software.
  • Develop civil site designs for land development projects, including grading, stormwater management, parking lots, sidewalks, roadways, and utility layouts.
  • Prepare site grading and utility plans, perform hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and produce construction documents and supporting calculations for permitting and approvals with local jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate with project managers, municipal staff, review agencies, subconsultants, and clients to track project status and prepare technical reports, permitting packages, and other project documentation.

We Require

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 4-6 years of experience in designing civil projects; commercial, industrial, retail, education, municipal, roadways, & utilities.
  • Engineer in Training certification
  • Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE Exam) Passed or eligible to complete within the next 12 months
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills. Connections are a critical part of how we work.

Position Type and Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position, with an expectation to work 40 hours per week. BHB offers flexible scheduling options, including five 8-hour days or four 9-hour days with a half day on Friday morning. While the start and end times of the workday can be adjusted, employees are expected to establish and maintain a consistent schedule which must encompass the core business hours of 9am – 4pm.   Although overtime is not required, it is requested at times to meet our clients’ needs.
