OverviewPosition Purpose The Civil Engineer 1 will provide design and plan production for a wide variety of projects which may include research, planning, traffic safety, road reconstruction and highway and bridge maintenance. The Civil Engineer will perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.Essential Functions Perform engineering calculations in support of civil engineering design projectsAssist project team in obtaining civil and environmental permits with multiple agenciesPerform onsite construction observation or other field verification tasks as neededPerform AutoCAD Civil 3D design/drafting in support of civil engineering design projectsCoordinate with government agencies, client staff, and other professionals to obtain design information and approvalsWrite and edit construction specifications and engineering reportsTabulate bid items and calculate construction bid quantities from plans and specificationsRequired Traits & Characteristics Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines using discretion and judgmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work with a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, surveyors, architects, and techniciansConsistently exercises discretion and judgment in all work tasksOrganizational Relationships Reports Directly to Transportation Project ManagerRequired Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Civil EngineeringAbility to obtain PE license within 4 years of employmentPreferred Education/Experience 0-5 years of experience in construction or civil engineering fieldSuccessfully passed FE examTravel Position based in KalamazooTravel between offices for collaboration with team members and for project meetings as neededTravel to job sites as neededAbout Wightman Wightman is a full-service consulting firm that exists to service people and the communities we live in.
