Civil Engineer II – Transportation Chicago, IL Full-Time | Hybrid Flexibility Available We are seeking a Civil Engineer II with transportation engineering experience to support roadway, highway, and infrastructure projects within a collaborative engineering environment. This role will work closely with senior engineers and project teams on transportation design, planning, permitting, and infrastructure improvement initiatives across a variety of public and private sector projects. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting roadway or transportation engineering projects, strong technical design capabilities, and a desire to continue growing within a fast-paced consulting environment. Key Responsibilities Transportation Engineering & Design Support transportation and roadway engineering projects from planning through design and construction Assist with roadway geometry, intersection improvements, corridor studies, multimodal transportation projects, and traffic-related improvements Prepare engineering plans, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documentation Participate in transportation planning efforts, feasibility studies, and infrastructure improvement initiatives Assist with traffic management and transportation capacity analysis activities Conduct field visits, site assessments, and data collection activities Technical & Project Support Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and internal departments Support permitting efforts and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations Assist with stormwater, drainage, and environmental considerations associated with roadway projects Participate in construction-phase support and project coordination activities Prepare technical presentations, meeting materials, and project documentation Monitor assigned project tasks for schedule, quality, and technical accuracy Team Collaboration & Growth Work alongside senior engineering staff while continuing to develop technical expertise Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members when appropriate Support QA/QC efforts and maintain organized project documentation Participate in client meetings, agency coordination, and stakeholder engagement efforts Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field 3+ years of experience in transportation engineering, roadway design, or related infrastructure projects Experience with roadway/highway design, transportation planning, or traffic engineering projects EIT certification preferred PE license or ability to obtain preferred Familiarity with DOT standards, permitting processes, and transportation design practices Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or related design software Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines within a team-oriented environment Preferred Experience Urban or rural roadway/intersection design Corridor improvement projects Transportation studies and traffic analysis ADA compliance standards and roadway accessibility considerations Construction support or field engineering exposure This opportunity offers strong long-term growth potential within a collaborative transportation engineering team focused on infrastructure improvement, mobility, and community development.
