What You'll Be DoingJob Summary: Generally responsible for performing engineering tasks to support the complete design of small and large civil engineering projects using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision at our office in Decatur, AL. Relocation support may be available for those who qualify.Primary ResponsibilitiesFamiliarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standardsFamiliarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task teamProduce medium complex, complete design calculations and assignmentsProduce reports for client and/or regulatory agenciesProvide design assistance on larger and more complex assignmentsCheck calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practiceDevelop conceptual layouts and cost studiesAssist with drafting of plans and details for the completion of engineering drawingsPerform fieldwork to gather data, check tie‑ins, and provide construction supportDevelop written construction specifications that define the scope of work, provide specific instruction, and prescribe quality standardsPerform land development and zoning code research for civil‑site development projectsWork with discipline lead engineer in identifying scope changes in projectsReview and check submittal drawings and documentationAbility to lead small size teams in coordinating civil efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule and budgetAssist with estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of civil/structural workIdeal BackgroundEducationBachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required.RegistrationEngineer in Training (EIT) registration is required. Professional licensure is highly desired.ExperienceRequires up to 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in civil‑site engineering in the industrial setting. Previous experience in commercial, government, or infrastructure setting may be considered for this position.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, maintaining focus and re‑prioritizing as necessary to meet multiple commitmentsKnowledge and application of associated standards (ASCE, ACI, AASHTO, AREMA, NRCS, NFPA, etc.)Working knowledge of civil stormwater analysis software including operating and interpreting resultsAbility to actively listen and ascertain the needs of teammates and clientsAbility to work with a team to complete small and large projectsAble to assist with the development of presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors servicesWorking knowledge of AutoCAD.
