Civil Engineer

Job Description

The Civil Engineer will perform a wide range of technical engineering tasks individually and as part of a collaborative project team. Depending on licensure status and experience level, you will contribute to projects in transportation, water and wastewater, municipal infrastructure, or land development. This role is ideal for professionals with a civil engineering degree who are on the path to obtaining, or have already obtained, an EIT or PE license. Engineers at all experience levels are encouraged to apply, as the organization strongly supports training, mentoring, and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Execute technical civil engineering work on projects in transportation, water and wastewater, municipal infrastructure, and land development, either independently or as part of a project team.
  • Develop and refine civil engineering designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including site layouts, grading plans, drainage systems, and stormwater management features.
  • Support land development projects by preparing plans and design documents for site development, utilities, and related civil works.
  • Contribute to municipal engineering projects, assisting with the design and review of public infrastructure such as roads, stormwater systems, and water resources facilities.
  • Assist with transportation engineering tasks, which may include roadway design, traffic-related improvements, and associated civil design elements.
  • Participate in water resources and wastewater projects by supporting the design of collection, conveyance, and treatment-related infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, constructible engineering solutions.
  • Prepare and update engineering drawings, models, and documentation in accordance with applicable standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Support construction-related activities by responding to design questions, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating with inspection and construction management teams as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and mentorship opportunities to progress toward EIT or PE licensure and expand technical capabilities.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work culture by communicating effectively and supporting colleagues across multiple office locations.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 2-15+ years of professional experience in civil engineering.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and drafting.
  • Experience or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: land development, municipal engineering, water resources, or transportation engineering.
  • Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with EIT or PE preferred depending on experience.
  • Ability to perform civil design tasks such as grading, drainage, stormwater management, and site development.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills in civil engineering.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a project team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • EIT certification or PE license preferred, depending on level of experience.
  • Experience as a Civil Engineer or Civil Designer on land development, municipal, water, wastewater, or transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with stormwater management design, drainage systems, and grading for site development.
  • Experience with municipal engineering and coordination with local municipalities.
  • Exposure to transportation engineering and roadway design.
  • Experience with related design software tools such as Revit is beneficial.
  • Interest in construction inspection, land surveying, or construction management services is a plus.
  • Motivation to grow professionally through mentoring, training, and preparation for licensure exams.
