Civil Engineering Practice Leader - Northern CaliforniaLumos & Associates is seeking an experienced Northern California Civil Engineering Practice Leader to lead and grow our Civil Engineering practice in the greater Sacramento region from our Roseville, California office.This is a unique opportunity for a motivated civil engineering leader to help expand Lumos' presence in Northern California, develop lasting client relationships, lead meaningful infrastructure projects, and mentor a talented, multidisciplinary team.This role is ideal for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong relationship‑building skills, and proven experience leading civil engineering teams and projects in a consulting environment.What You Will DoAs the Northern California Civil Engineering Practice Leader, you will play a key role in leading and expanding Lumos' Engineering Division in the Sacramento region. You will be responsible for developing business opportunities, managing client relationships, overseeing project delivery, and supporting the growth and development of your team.Primary ResponsibilitiesLead business development efforts and promote repeat and referral business with existing and prospective clients.Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, allied professionals, and subconsultants.Participate in networking events, business development meetings, and industry‑related opportunities.Review, provide guidance on, and direct responses to SOQs, RFPs, and RFQs.Manage client projects from start to finish, ensuring high‑quality service and successful project outcomes.Oversee project delivery for a variety of civil engineering projects, including municipal infrastructure, public works, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, and site development projects.Review and approve fee proposals and scopes of work prepared by the group.Manage group backlog and identify current and future staffing needs.Oversee delegation of work and distribution of project load to support efficiency, quality, and a healthy work/life balance.Prepare and present projects to local authorities, including planning boards, city councils, and staff review committees.Communicate business strategy, priorities, and key results to operations staff.Facilitate regular staff meetings to promote open, transparent, and consistent communication.Recruit, hire, mentor, coach, and support the professional development of engineering staff.Promote positive employee relations, support team building, and help resolve employee issues when needed.Formulate and recommend engineering policies and programs that support the organization's competitive position and long‑term growth.Serve as a liaison between division leadership, executive leadership, and operations staff regarding decisions, policies, procedures, and performance expectations.Support other duties and special projects as assigned.What We Are Looking ForExperience10+ years of proven experience in civil engineering consulting, project management, or a related field.Demonstrated experience managing civil engineering projects and client relationships.Prior experience managing, supervising, training, coaching, developing, and motivating engineering teams.Proven success developing new business opportunities and supporting client proposals.Experience with municipal infrastructure, public works, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, or site development projects preferred.Experience presenting projects to local agencies, boards, councils, or review committees preferred.Strong understanding of consulting operations, project delivery, client service, backlog management, and staffing needs.Education&LicensureBachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university with an emphasis in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California.Leadership QualitiesCharismatic, approachable, and relationship‑focused with clients and colleagues.Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong drive to grow the business.Proven leader who balances accountability, empathy, and motivation.Collaborative and open to diverse perspectives and teamwork.Leads with integrity, respect, and clear communication.Trusted, transparent, and reliable, with a strong appreciation for others' contributions.Inspires vision, innovation, and high‑quality results.Empowers teams through autonomy, feedback, recognition, and support.Self‑motivated and comfortable leading initiatives in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and deadline‑driven environment.Skills&RequirementsStrong project management, time management, and organizational skills.Ability to apply cost/benefit analysis to requested projects and business decisions.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Strong communication skills with the ability to lead strategy and execute consistently.Ability to build trust, encourage cross‑functional cooperation, and support a highly engaged team environment.Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.Why Join Us?Lead and grow Lumos' Civil Engineering practice from our Roseville office.Make a direct impact on the company's growth throughout the greater Sacramento region.Build meaningful client relationships and help shape the future of the local practice.Mentor and develop a talented, multidisciplinary team.Work on impactful infrastructure and community‑focused projects.Competitive compensation, benefits, and professional growth opportunities.Pay Transparency StatementThe compensation range reflects the Company's reasonable expectation at the time of posting.
