Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Civil Litigation Attorney on behalf of a respected and growing law firm in Portland, OR. The firm represents businesses, insurers, and individuals in a broad range of civil defense matters and offers attorneys the opportunity to take ownership of cases while working alongside experienced litigators.

Position Overview

The Civil Defense Litigation Attorney will manage a diverse caseload through all phases of litigation, from initial case assessment through resolution, trial, or appeal. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong advocacy skills, exceptional attention to detail, and experience handling defense-side litigation matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage civil defense litigation matters from inception through resolution.
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and other legal documents.
  • Develop case strategies and evaluate liability, damages, and litigation risks.
  • Handle written discovery, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.
  • Prepare witnesses, experts, and clients for hearings, depositions, and trial.
  • Appear in court for hearings, case management conferences, motions, and other proceedings.
  • Collaborate with clients, insurance carriers, experts, and opposing counsel throughout the litigation process.
  • Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements.
  • Provide practical legal advice and regular case updates to clients.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license and good standing with Oregon State Bar.
  • Experience handling civil litigation matters, preferably on the defense side.
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of approximately $110,000-$145,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
