The Opportunity
CMDA Law is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Attorney to join its Riverside office. The attorney will independently manage a diverse litigation caseload from initial investigation through resolution while collaborating with partners, colleagues, and professional staff across the firm.
This position is well suited for an attorney who values meaningful case responsibility, direct client interaction, professional autonomy, and the support of an established litigation platform.
Responsibilities
- Manage civil litigation matters from initial investigation and case evaluation through settlement, trial, or appeal.
- Develop litigation strategies by evaluating the facts, applicable law, potential exposure, and opportunities for resolution.
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.
- Conduct and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony.
- Represent clients in California state and federal courts at hearings, conferences, motions, and trials.
- Handle all phases of written discovery, document production, expert discovery, and related motion practice.
- Represent clients in mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and other alternative dispute-resolution proceedings.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research platforms.
- Maintain regular client communication, including case evaluations, risk assessments, status updates, and strategic recommendations.
- Negotiate settlements while protecting client interests and maintaining professional relationships with opposing counsel.
- Collaborate with attorneys and professional staff to provide efficient, cost-effective representation consistent with firm and client standards.
- Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines, procedural requirements, and firm policies.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD)
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- 3+ of civil litigation experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage litigation matters independently through the major stages of a case.
- Experience conducting depositions, handling motion practice, and appearing in state or federal court.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills.
- Strong judgment, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines effectively.
- Excellent client-service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with legal research platforms and case-management technology.
- Trial experience is preferred.
- Experience representing public entities, businesses, insurers, or other institutional clients is valued but not required.

Compensation and Benefits
