The Role You Will Play
As the Legal Assistant supporting a busy litigation partner, you will play a critical role in managing a high-volume insurance defense and civil litigation practice. This position requires a highly organized professional who can work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare, revise, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
- Electronically file documents in Ohio state and federal courts.
- Manage attorney calendars, litigation deadlines, and docketing.
- Track and organize approximately 80–90 active litigation matters.
- Schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and client meetings.
- Prepare Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities for appellate filings.
- Enter attorney time from dictation and assist with client billing.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical case files.
- Coordinate attorney travel and other administrative support.
- Provide overflow litigation support to additional attorneys as needed.
Background Profile
- Minimum of 5 years of litigation legal assistant or litigation paralegal experience.
- Experience with state and federal electronic court filings.
- Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and court deadlines.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation practice.
- Excellent proofreading, grammar, and document formatting skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Microsoft Word.
- Experience with PracticeMaster, TABS, or similar legal software is a plus.
- Insurance defense or civil litigation experience is strongly preferred.
