Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project/Civil Engineer to join our Underground Utility Construction division. This role supports the planning, coordination, and execution of underground utility projects — including water, sewer, storm drain, gas, and dry utility installations — from pre-construction through project closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, scheduling, and execution of underground utility construction projects, including trenching, etc...
Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with engineering standards and client requirements.
Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
Coordinate with surveyors, subcontractors, and utility locators to support accurate field layout and installation.
Support quantity takeoffs, material procurement, and cost tracking to help maintain project budgets.
Monitor daily field progress and maintain accurate project logs, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
Assist with scheduling updates and progress reporting using project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar).
Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to identify and resolve field conflicts, design discrepancies, and constructability issues.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA regulations, and company HSE policies on all job sites.
Support quality control efforts through inspections, testing coordination, and adherence to project specifications.
Assist with permit tracking, utility locate coordination, and municipal/regulatory compliance.
Participate in project meetings, providing updates on schedule, budget, and technical issues as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
2+ years of experience in civil/underground utility construction, engineering, or project support role.
Working knowledge of underground utility systems (water, sanitary/storm sewer, gas, or dry utilities) preferred.
Familiarity with construction drawings, grading plans, and utility plan sets.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design/review software is a plus.
Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing for underground work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with project management software a plus.
Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and contracts.
