Description / Position Overview

About this Position: Provide support and expertise through comprehensive assessment and investigation to meet the needs of the Domestic Violence/Adult Sexual Assault Unit while maintaining collaborative relationships between the District Attorney's Office, VAU, UC Health Forensic Nurse Examiner Team, TESSA, and other agencies that provide services related to the investigation of domestic violence and sexual assault.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a CCI in the DV/ASA Unit, you will:

  • Review cases for solvability.
  • Document and follow up on potential investigative leads.
  • Obtain information and conduct a criminal investigation when appropriate, including collecting and submitting evidence and obtaining victim and witness statements and medical records/evaluations, etc.
  • Prepare and file cases with the District Attorneys Office.
  • Conduct field work, victim and witness interviews, screen processing, and other investigative field-related tasks as needed.
  • Document all case management actions in LERMS (Law Enforcement Records Management System).
  • Maintain statistical information used for reporting purposes.
  • Conduct in-service training and educational presentations.
  • Testify in court when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Techniques, theories, and methods of investigation
  • Criminal procedures related to evidence and criminal investigations
  • Principles of filing and record keeping
  • Modern office technology and supporting software
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Properly and safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Work closely with, and at the direction of, police officers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study, preferably in social work, behavioral sciences or criminal justice.
  • Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field, preferably in a position responsible for investigating various crimes.
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain, a valid, non-probationary Colorado drivers license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess or obtain within three months of hire, the following certifications: National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification, Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) Certification

Education and Experience Equivalence: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of academic coursework directly related to this position beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Computer based investigative skills experience.

  • College level coursework in the criminal justice field.

  • Progressive experience investigating domestic violence and adult sexual assault.

  • Experience as a sworn officer.

Additional Information

Working Conditions: The work schedule, which is subject to the needs of the department, will primarily be Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Office environment as well as field work with potential exposure to inclement weather. Frequent exposure to noise; possible exposure to biohazardous materials as well as aggressive individuals and criminal suspects.

Pre-employment Requirements:

The job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of an extensive background investigation, to include a polygraph examination, extensive background check, fingerprinting, criminal history check, and other pre-employment assessments. The background investigation process commonly takes 6-8 weeks to complete.
