JOB DESCRIPTION

The employee in this position will be responsible for connecting families experiencing homelessness and housing instability with needed community resources in order to remove barriers to student enrollment, attendance and academic achievement. This person will implement and follow the McKinney-Vento law and regulations. This person will also attend and be involved in various community committees and boards that assist children and families. This may require a flexible schedule in order to attend evening events, as well as assist in preparing program reports and perform other job-related duties as assigned in the Learning Supports & Programs department.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.

• Spanish bilingual skills required - must pass the STAMP bilingual assessment within two weeks of job offer.

• Must have reliable personal transportation and valid car insurance

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.

• Must pass a basic skills test.

• Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.

• Must pass a background check, which includes employee-paid fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Computer Skills - WORD, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Google Workspace
• Positive performance evaluations.
• Be able to work independently as well as with others.
• Must be able to initiate independent actions and be a self-starter.
• Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
• Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Must attend in-service training or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
• Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
• Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
• Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
• Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
• Demonstrated high level of literacy in both written and oral Spanish and English. (An assessment will be required in written and oral Spanish/English.)
• Must have transportation, valid Washington State Driver's license, and required liability insurance.
• Must be able to make home visits to migrant families.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

• Bachelor of Arts in social work or related field
• Knowledge of school and community resources available to students and parents.
• Understanding of McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act
• Experience with multicultural issues.
• Experience working with non-English speakers.
• Experience working independently.
• Experience working as a team member and collegial group dynamics.
• Excellent communication skills; both written and oral. Will be assessed

• Excellent organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with families and students in a patient, caring, and effective manner.
• Ability to attend regional and state in-service training.
• Ability to be flexible in time schedule, in order to work evening hours when needed.
• Ability to complete accurate and timely reports and other paperwork.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a liaison role between the home, school, and community.
• Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of word processing and computerized data management.
• Evidence of positive recommendations and performance evaluations.
• Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
• Ability to work on a team as well as individually.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and verify information on the Student(s) in Transition intake form and questionnaire
• Complete clothing voucher; if needed, purchase items not available with voucher.
• Organize, and distribute school supplies.
• Solicit donations and work with community organizations to help the homeless.
• Work with secondary schools for specific needs, such as ASB fees or bus tickets.
• Communicate and work with district staff to best meet the needs of homeless students.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, students and staff
• Attend conferences/training to gain knowledge of Federal or State requirements regarding homeless students and families.
• Be knowledgeable of community services and support agencies in an effort to help link families in need with community resources
• Represent the District in a positive light and enhance the district/community relationship
• Refer families to appropriate health, social or legal services in order to meet the needs of student's successful participation in school
• Attend monthly community outreach meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned

The employee is required to taste and smell. • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

• Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
