Job Description

Overview:

Family-owned transportation & distribution company is looking for a candidate to join its in- house legal department, to manage a moderate caseload (approx. 75 files) of personal injury claim files. Paralegal certification is not a requirement; relevant experience (plaintiff or defense) is a must. Will consider candidates with experience/background as insurance claims examiner.

Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day management of mostly pre-litigation personal injury claims, primarily
    trucking/auto related and premises liability (slip & falls)
  • Leading post-accident internal investigations, to include the gathering witness statements,
    physical and other evidence to preserve for possible future litigation
  • Gathering all relevant medical records, including medical bills, from claimants and their
    attorneys
  • Gathering all additional relevant evidence from claimant attorneys, including evidence
    relating to liability and property damages
  • Examining and summarizing all medical records and bills – FAMILIARITY AND
    EXPERIENCE WITH REVIEWING MEDICAL RECORDS IS A MUST
  • Analyzing and evaluating claims – including liability and medical causation issues
  • Preparing and organizing unresolved claim files in such a manner as to be transferred to
    in-house litigation paralegal, with whom you will be closely working
  • May be asked to assist in-house attorneys with other tasks unrelated to personal injury
    claims, such as employment and other legal matters affecting the company
Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include the following:

  • Minimum of five (5) years in the claims or legal industry relating to the handling of
    personal injury and property damage (auto) claims
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to effectively and professionally correspond and
    negotiate with claimants, attorneys, insurers etc. in order to settle claims
  • Significant knowledge of medical and legal terminology and practices
  • Must be professional, highly organized and detailed oriented
  • Ability to work at a fast pace, with little supervision and be able to multi-task
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, required
  • Capable of prioritizing and reprioritizing tasks

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or paralegal certificate preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of software management system for handling legal files.
  • Tech savvy knowledge of internet, operating systems, mobile devices, etc.
  • Proficient use of PC with thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of standard and currently used office equipment (e.g., copiers, scanners, etc.).

We are excited to share that the base salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $90,000.00.  This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, targeted at 3%.  NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.
