POSITION TITLE: Claims System and Business Analyst II

STATUS: Exempt

COMPENSATION RANGE: $78,000-87,000 Annually

LOCATION: Remote with travel within the assigned territory listed below

REPORTS TO: VP of Claims

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Claims Technology Business Analyst is responsible for delivering business analysis, system automation initiatives, including artificial intelligence (AI), project allocation, and system maintenance for all core systems used by the Claims Department. The role serves as a key link between business needs and technology execution by evaluating organizational challenges, documenting technical requirements, and translating them into clear, actionable specifications for developers and IT teams.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Conduct business analysis to identify operational challenges and opportunities for improvement within the Claims Department.
  • Analyzes, prepares, designs and/or reviews Claims reporting systems, determining formats, displays and functional designs.
  • Analyzes claims data and metrics to provide observations on trends to leadership.
  • Manage project allocation and coordinate priorities across multiple system-related initiatives.
  • Oversee ongoing system maintenance and support for core Claims Department platforms.
  • Gather, document, and clarify business and technical requirements for new and existing systems.
  • Translate business needs into functional specifications for developers and IT partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technology solutions align with organizational goals.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend enhancements to improve usability, reliability, and business outcomes.
  • Partner with department leadership to assess business needs, allocate resources, and prioritize initiatives that support corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain broad, enterprise-level knowledge of Claims Department operations and business activities, with responsibility for driving continuous improvement and scalability.
  • Lead and support system automation efforts, including AI-driven solutions and automation tools, to improve business practices, reduce manual work, increase accuracy, and boost efficiency across claims functions.
  • Oversee the evaluation, testing, recommendation, and implementation of enhancements to insurance systems, including Finys, legacy platforms, and ImageRight, to ensure alignment with business strategy and technical standards.
  • Direct the development, testing, documentation, and deployment of system changes to ensure reliable performance, regulatory compliance, and positive customer outcomes.
  • Establish standards and governance for gathering, documenting, and validating business requirements from Claims and Information Services to support system and process changes.
  • Ensure thorough test scenarios, validation plans, and acceptance criteria are developed and executed to support high-quality system releases.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of processing procedures and documentation to align with evolving systems, AI capabilities, and business rules.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex processing and procedural issues, providing accurate guidance and timely resolution for stakeholders.
  • Identify, recommend, and lead system, process, and AI-driven initiatives that improve efficiency, productivity, data quality, and decision-making across the department and organization.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with business units and the IS department to align business strategy with technology execution.
  • Work with business leaders to understand, communicate, and strategically prioritize projects while balancing immediate operational needs with long-term transformation goals.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • All other duties as assigned by the VP of Claims.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of insurance processing systems and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools, software, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining focus on details and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of multiline claims, including Auto, Property, and Commercial lines.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of experience in the design, development, and implementation of information systems projects and solutions.
  • Two to three years of prior insurance experience.
  • Coursework in project management, business analysis, or related discipline.
  • Insurance-related coursework, including progress toward or completion of designations such as General Insurance, AIS, AIC, or AAM.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting claims systems, workflow optimization, or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of business process improvement methodologies and requirements gathering best practices.
  • Experience working with cross-functional technology teams, including developers, business analysts, and system administrators.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, reporting tools, or dashboard development.
  • Experience with AI-enabled tools or automation technologies that improve operational efficiency.
  • Project coordination or project management experience in a business or technology environment.
  • Progress toward or completion of relevant insurance, business analysis, or project management certifications.
