Class A CDL Route Driver
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Friday, with some weekends required
Route Type: Interstate routes with overnight layovers
Equipment: Sleeper tractor and end-dump trailer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Class A CDL Route Driver to operate a sleeper tractor with an end-dump trailer. This position involves scheduled route work across state lines, beginning early in the morning.
Drivers will complete an assigned route, lay over as required, return to the terminal, and repeat the process. The ideal candidate will be safety-conscious, comfortable traveling overnight, mechanically inclined, and able to communicate effectively with management throughout each route.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class A sleeper tractor and end-dump trailer.
- Complete assigned routes across state lines.
- Begin routes during early-morning hours.
- Remain overnight during required layovers.
- Return to the terminal after completing each route and prepare for the next assignment.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
- Crawl beneath the truck and trailer when necessary to inspect brakes, slack adjusters, and other safety-related components.
- Identify and report mechanical or safety concerns before operating the equipment.
- Perform minor maintenance and basic troubleshooting when needed.
- Safely operate end-dump equipment and related controls.
- Follow all loading, unloading, and dumping procedures.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and all applicable federal and state requirements.
- Accurately maintain electronic logs, inspection reports, trip documentation, and other required records.
- Operate a mobile phone and company applications for communication, navigation, documentation, and route updates.
- Maintain regular communication with management and promptly report delays, equipment problems, accidents, or route concerns.
- Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of assigned equipment.
- Work some weekends based on operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Current DOT medical certification.
- Ability to legally operate a commercial vehicle across state lines.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers.
- Ability and willingness to drive early-morning routes and complete overnight layovers.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and hours-of-service requirements.
- Ability to perform complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform minor maintenance.
- Ability to use a smartphone for calls, messaging, navigation, electronic logs, and company applications.
- Strong communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous end-dump trailer experience.
- Experience operating hydraulic controls or hydraulic dumping systems.
- Experience operating sleeper tractors.
- Experience completing interstate routes and overnight layovers.
- Mechanical or equipment-troubleshooting experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb into and out of a commercial vehicle safely.
- Ability to climb onto equipment when performing inspections.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl beneath a tractor and trailer.
- Ability to inspect brakes, slack adjusters, tires, hydraulic systems, and other equipment components.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items required for normal driving and inspection duties.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods.
Work Schedule and Travel
This is a full-time, Monday-through-Friday route position with early-morning start times. Overnight layovers and interstate travel are regular requirements of the position. Some weekend work may be required depending on route schedules, customer needs, weather, and operational demands.
