Salary Range: $30 to $33 depending on experience
Position Summary:
The Class A Driver is responsible for safely transporting and delivering heavy equipment, machinery, and related materials to customer and company locations. This position ensures loads are properly secured, equipment is transported in compliance with DOT and safety regulations, and deliveries are completed efficiently and professionally. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and experienced operating tractor-trailer combinations and hauling heavy equipment in varying road and weather conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
- Complete walk around inspections and submit daily
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions by checking that the equipment is loaded and secured properly according to regulations
- Collect and verify delivery route instructions from appropriate source
- Obtain oversize and weight permits
- Coordinate pilot vehicle needs
- Maintain driver logs according to all applicable federal, state, local, and Sonsray regulations and procedures
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles promptly
- Secure cargo for transport or towing with applicable restraints including appropriate blocks, chains, binders, or straps where applicable, including covering of windows, exhaust, intake and other items as product configurations dictate
- Stop at all weigh stations along routes to comply with federal, state and local regulations
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
- Inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions and notify the supervisor of any discrepancies
- Regularly be engaged away from the employer's place or places of business and will be driving to the existing customer’s and/or prospective client’s location
- Drive trucks with capacities greater than 26,001 GVRW including tractor-trailer combinations to transport, tow, or deliver products and/or materials
- Assist with basic shop and yard support duties, including equipment check-in/check-out inspections for rentals and customer units.
- Perform light maintenance and service support such as oil changes, preventative maintenance, machine washing, fueling, and general upkeep of equipment and yard areas.
- Support the service department as a shop helper by assisting technicians with basic tasks, moving equipment, installing buckets or attachments for rental units, and providing additional hands when needed to avoid pulling technicians away from active repair jobs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, wash rack, and equipment staging areas.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required, including manual transmission endorsement and current medical card. Candidates must provide documentation at the time of interview and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- This position requires local Class A driving and flatbed hauling experience.
- Ability to maintain DOT compliance and meet company driving standards.
- Prior experience operating tractor-trailers, flatbeds, towing equipment, and transporting heavy loads preferred.
- Experience with proper cargo securement procedures, including chains, binders, straps, and load safety requirements.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, oversize/overweight load requirements, cargo securement, and transportation safety procedures.
- Ability to safely transport occasional oversize and overweight loads in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and management.
- Must be able to frequently walk, stand, bend, push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors and safely operate equipment in varying weather and road conditions.
