The Classes Assistant helps the lead instructor with classroom management, teaching, preparation, activity clean-up, and other tasks in a classroom-based day camp setting with grade blocked students in grades K-8.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assists lead instructor with classroom management by engaging students and following behavioral intervention procedures;
- Facilitates hands-on science activities and leads demonstrations/projects with guidance from lead instructor;
- Assists lead instructor with classroom preparation and with cleaning up educational experiences to facilitate an effective learning environment;
- Communicates effectively with students, caregivers, co-workers, and supervisors about programming expectations and procedures;
- Supervises students to ensure a safe, fun, and engaging environment for up to 25 students.
Secondary Job Responsibilities
Secondary responsibilities include-but are not limited to-the following:
- Provide other classroom, peer, and student support, such as sitting and connecting with an upset student or helping collect missing items.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to follow instructions from Classes Instructors and Classes Management;
- Ability to work with and communicate with diverse groups of students while using a racial equity lens;
- Ability to learn and lead educational experiences;
- Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on customer service and problem-solving;
- Ability to adhere to confidentiality, protocol, and community agreements;
- Ability to learn current equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice theories and practical applications, including critical theories of systemic oppression, unconscious bias, and personal identity and intersectionality matters;
- Demonstrated ability to pivot between individual and team work.
Education & Work Experience
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 year experience working with children, with an emphasis on safety and engagement;
- Demonstrated experience or ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and talents in a professional work environment.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Pre-employment checks, such as criminal background checks and reference checks.
- Current CPR and First-Aid Certification:
- If not licensed, training can be provided at no cost for selected candidates as part of the onboarding process.
