SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY

Works with students to facilitate learning and improve skills in the classroom to assist teaching staff.

Tutors small group or individual students as needed.

Maintains records of students served, as well as their academic progress.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree or 60 semester hours of college credit or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment test required.
  • Prior work experience of three to six months with young people in a school or child care setting and previous IPS experience is helpful.
  • Organizational skills to compile and maintain documentation, basic computer skills, and basic office skills of typing and answering phone calls.
  • Must be able to work under the instruction of a certified teacher but without constant direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides instructional intervention under direction of licensed teacher.

Reinforces instruction of the classroom teacher.

Uses existing exercises, games, quizzes, or other devices on own.

May utilize a computer for instruction.

Based on teachers lesson plans, prepares activities for all assigned students and assists in preparing progress reports for parents.

Maintains records of student served and their progress.

Helps students prepare for ISTEP testing.

Helps teacher maintain cleanliness and order in the classroom.

May assist in supervision of students during lunch or recess periods.

Promotes positive attitudes among students and encourages them to develop their academic skills as well as self-discipline.

Assists classroom teachers with the implementation of instruction plan.

Helps create and maintain an appropriate and positive learning environment.

Assists in the collection and compilation of student, parent, teacher, and community data.

Must be present at work.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
