Art Teacher
Position Summary
Hampton Elementary School is seeking a creative, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as a .2 FTE Art Teacher for students in preschool through grade six. Located in a small, close-knit school community, Hampton Elementary School values meaningful relationships, individualized support for students, creativity, and strong partnerships with families and the community.
Additional Opportunity: Chaplin Public Schools, a neighboring district, is also seeking a .6 FTE Art Teacher, creating the potential for an interested candidate to combine the two positions for up to a .8 FTE schedule. Each position is subject to the respective districts separate application and hiring process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction for students in preschool through grade six.
- Align instruction with district curriculum, applicable Connecticut standards, and the National Core Arts Standards.
- Provide students with opportunities to explore a variety of artistic media, techniques, processes, and forms of creative expression.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and students requiring enrichment or additional support.
- Utilize observation, student work, discussion, and other appropriate assessment methods to monitor student learning and inform instruction.
- Create and maintain an art classroom environment that promotes creativity, exploration, perseverance, and student engagement.
- Make meaningful connections between visual arts, other areas of the curriculum, and students experiences when appropriate.
Student Support and Classroom Environment
- Establish clear classroom expectations and routines that support a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
- Foster students creativity, confidence, social-emotional development, and positive peer relationships through restorative and relationship-centered practices.
- Maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior while providing individualized support and encouragement.
- Ensure the safe and appropriate use, organization, and storage of art materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Ensure student safety and appropriate supervision during instruction, transitions, and other assigned school activities.
- Cultivate a classroom community where every student feels valued, supported, and able to participate meaningfully in the visual arts.
Assessment and Communication
- Monitor, assess, and document student learning and progress as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate student records and required documentation.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with families, colleagues, administrators, and other members of the school community.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, related service providers, and other staff to support student learning and participation.
- Build positive relationships with students and families as valued partners in student success.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Bachelors degree in Education, Art Education, or related field required.
- Valid Connecticut teaching certification in Art, 042 is required.
Additional Duties
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and school environment and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
- Must be able to organize, distribute, and store art materials and supplies and assist students with materials and equipment as needed.
