GRADE 2 TEACHER - Location: North Canaan Elementary School, North Canaan, CT

Position Summary:

North Canaan Elementary School seeks a dedicated and inspiring Grade 2 teacher to join its collaborative team of professionals. The successful candidate will hold high academic expectations for all students and believe every child can achieve at a high level. The Grade 2 teacher will design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support students academic, social, and emotional growth. A strong understanding of early literacy, foundational numeracy, assessment practices, differentiation, and using data to inform instruction is essential. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, families, support staff, and administrators to meet the needs of every learner.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning & Instruction
• Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Connecticut standards and district curriculum.
• Establish clear learning targets and use evidence-based instructional practices to support student learning and independence.
• Provide differentiated and scaffolded instruction responsive to students strengths, needs, interests, and prior learning.
• Support the development of foundational literacy and numeracy skills using effective, research-based instructional practices.
• Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, adjust instruction, and provide timely and meaningful feedback.
• Provide tiered interventions and supports as part of the schools Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS/SRBI).

Professional Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, support staff, and families to support student learning and success.
• Participate in developing and implementing IEPs, 504 plans, SRBI/MTSS supports, and other student plans, as appropriate.
• Communicate proactively and respectfully with families and develop positive partnerships that support student success.
• Engage in professional learning, reflection, and collaboration to continuously strengthen instructional practice.
• Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct consistent with district policies and the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable education discipline required; Masters degree preferred.
• Certification: Must hold or be eligible for appropriate Connecticut educator certification for the position, including Elementary, Grades 1 6 (305), or other applicable certification.
• Experience: Successful prior teaching experience or clinical practice at the elementary level preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective elementary instructional practices, particularly in literacy and mathematics.
• Ability to use assessment data to differentiate instruction and support student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Ability to use educational technology and digital platforms effectively to support instruction and student learning.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required pre-employment background checks and other statutory and District hiring requirements.

Salary & Benefits - Salary range: $48,255 to $110,156, commensurate with education and experience and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
