Job Description:
QUALIFICATIONS: A certificate for the particular position as required by the State Department of Education.
REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal, Director/Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Paraprofessionals, tutors, volunteers where applicable.
JOB GOAL: To support the district in its provision of quality education for all children in the public schools (whether regular, special or remedial education) using the resources provided by the district.
JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: In accordance with Board policy and the state teaching competencies and in recognizing that each teacher's style is unique, the teacher will:
Instruct and assist students to learn subject matter and/or skills which contribute toward the development of their potential for intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, and emotional growth.
Follow the principles of least restrictive environment, using techniques which not only enhance this process, but also employ the innovative style and creativity of the teacher.
Establish a good rapport with students, parents, and other staff and community.
Fulfill professional responsibilities as defined in contract.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Professional Skills: The teacher will establish procedures of management to allow a maximum of learning and a minimum of disciplinary action by:
Demonstrating knowledge of subject matter or in a specialty area (i.e. Pupil Personnel)
Displaying knowledge of growth and development of youth
Planning and organizing effectively
Using varied and appropriate techniques to accomplish predetermined objectives
Making provisions for individual differences
Encouraging the development of independent work habits
Encouraging a flexible, individual approach to problem-solving
Providing appropriate instruction or intervention to students with special needs
Diagnosing and assessing student abilities using the State of CT Assessment Framework, and making referrals when appropriate
Establishing a positive learning environment
Assisting in the development and management of the student's IEP or other individualized plan
Demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills
