Job Description:

Position Summary

Hampton Elementary School is seeking a caring, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as a Grade 4 Classroom Teacher. Located in a small, close-knit preschool through grade six school community, Hampton Elementary School values meaningful relationships, individualized support for students, and strong partnerships with families and the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver effective instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and grade-level expectations.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional practices in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and other required content areas.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and students requiring enrichment or intervention.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching practices.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student engagement, curiosity, creativity, and academic success.
  • Foster authentic, meaningful learning experiences that help students make connections between school, community, and civic responsibility.

Student Support and Classroom Environment

  • Establish clear classroom expectations and routines that support a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Foster students' social-emotional development and positive peer relationships through restorative and relationship-centered practices.
  • Maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior while providing individualized support and encouragement.
  • Ensure student safety and supervision during classroom instruction, transitions, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
  • Cultivate a classroom community where every student feels valued, supported, and connected.

Assessment and Communication

  • Monitor, assess, and document student academic and behavioral progress.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, and required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and student needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families as valued partners in student success.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required.
  • Valid Connecticut teaching certification appropriate for elementary education required.

Additional Duties:

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child

Pay and Benefits:

  • Per the Hampton Elementary School Contract
