Job Description:

Adult Education Part-Time Evening ESL Teacher

Location: Watertown High School, 324 French St, Watertown, CT

Reports to: Director of Adult Education

Part-Time: 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Mondays & Wednesdays

Salary: $33.10/hour

The position is open until filled - anticipated start date: August 15, 2026

Job Description: Provides high-quality English language instruction to adult learners, delivering standards-based lessons that promote English proficiency, workforce readiness, and successful achievement of students educational and personal goals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned with English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards.
  • Create a positive learning environment that is supportive and safe for all learners
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage learners and develop sound foundational skills and transferable speaking & literacy skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Sensitive to the needs of adult learners aged 18+
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of strategies and linguistic supports to support instruction
  • Ability to use classroom technology such as a laptop, projector, and interactive board to enhance instruction

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • CT Certification #088 (Non-English Speaking Adults) is required.
  • A bachelors degree is required; Bachelors or Masters degree in education is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different backgrounds and cultures
  • Experience teaching adult learners who speak multiple languages
  • Attuned to the specific learning needs of adult students.
