    Grove School Transition Programs

    Grove School's transition program provides individualized support to help 18-22 year old young adults prepare for life after high school. Through coordinated academic instruction, career exploration, work-based learning, community experiences, and independent living skill development, students identify their strengths, interests, and postsecondary goals. Transition planning is integrated into each student's educational program and may include support with college or vocational applications, employment readiness, self-advocacy, transportation, financial literacy, daily living skills, and connections to adult service agencies.

    Position Summary

    The Teacher/Counselor plays a key role in Grove School's integrated educational and therapeutic model. This position combines classroom instruction with active participation in the residential life program, ensuring consistent support for students across academic and living environments. Teacher/Counselors design engaging lessons aligned with Grove School's curriculum, provide behavioral guidance, and model professional standards of conduct for students.

    Responsibilities

    Academic Responsibilities

    • Maintain a current Connecticut teaching certification.
    • Teach life-skills classes (cooking, budgeting, organization, communication).

    Residential Responsibilities

    • Participate in the supervision of residential dorms during assigned shifts.
    • Promote positive behavior, accountability, and life skills in residential settings.
    • Maintain safety, hygiene, and organization in dormitory environments.
    • Transport students to campus, work, appointments, and activities.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required; Connecticut teaching certification preferred.
    • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
    • Willingness to complete medication handling training.
    • Ability to live on-site and participate in the residential community.

    Work Environment

    This position includes both academic classroom teaching and residential life participation, requiring flexibility, compassion, and professional collaboration.
