The Mathematics Coach is highly skilled in facilitating student-centered mathematics instruction and coaching teachers and teacher teams to implement the districts mathematics curriculum. This position requires a teacher who is a continual learner and has knowledge of and demonstrated success in teaching a problem-based curriculum as well as in facilitating job-embedded professional learning for teachers. The Mathematics Coach will be a member of the schools Instructional Leadership Team and will be responsible for supporting school leaders, teachers and teacher teams to meet the needs of their diverse learners through high quality instruction, frequent progress monitoring and targeted supports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide job-embedded professional development and coaching to support the implementation of the districts mathematics curriculum, resulting in coherent and standards-aligned instruction.
Play an active role on the schools Instructional Leadership Team to support the goals and objectives outlined in the School Improvement Plan.
Support teachers and teacher teams to provide access to the core curriculum for a diverse array of learners, including but not limited to Multilingual Learners and Students with Disabilities.
Support teachers and teacher teams with looking at student data/work to identify student needs in order to adjust instructional practices and to develop targeted supports for students.
Apply knowledge of adult learning principles to inform targeted supports for teachers and teacher teams through coaching, modeling, facilitating inter-visitations, etc.
Build strong relationships with teachers and paraprofessionals.
Attend regular professional learning workshops with the district team.
Collaborate with the Mathematics Improvement Teacher to ensure that Tier I, II, and III interventions are aligned and designed for maximum impact.
Create an articulated schedule, in collaboration with school leaders.
Design and facilitate Mathematics workshops for families.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Highly effective communicator
Considerable knowledge about the pedagogy of a student-centered, problem-based curricula.
Commitment to addressing unfinished learning in the core curriculum so that students have access to grade-level content while receiving "just-in-time" supports.
Exemplary record of teaching and improving students mathematics proficiencies.
Strong record of coaching and facilitating professional learning for a variety of adults.
Effectively collaborates with school leaders, teachers and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
Connecticut Professional Educator License with the required endorsements.
Masters Degree required.
Minimum of five years of exemplary teaching at a minimum of two grade levels.
Strong presentation, facilitation, organization, and learning skills.
Previous experience as a Mathematics Coach or Teacher Leader preferred.
Previous participation in district learning opportunities and/or June curriculum work preferred.
Knowledge of Adult Learning Theory preferred.
Days: Monday - Friday
