New Milford Public Schools has an immediate opening for Home Teaching Tutor - Part-Time Support for the 2025-2026 school year.

Position: Home Teaching Tutor

Location: Secondary

Position Reports To: Principal

Start Date: 2026-2027 School Year

Required Certifications: Current State of Connecticut Certification in a Core Content Area (006, 015, 025, 029,030,031, 033,032)

General Scope of Function: The Home Teaching Instructor/Tutor provides individualized instruction to students who are unable to attend school due to documented and approved reasons. The tutor works closely with the students teachers and school personnel to deliver curriculum aligned instruction and help students maintain academic progress during their short-term absence. Instruction will occur in a public setting, or in special circumstances, virtually.

Preferred Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/ or abilities required:

  • Connecticut Secondary Certification
  • Familiarity with IEPs, 504 plans and individualized instruction.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the field of education.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaborate with other teachers and administrators.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one (or on rare occasion small group) instruction in accordance with the students general education curriculum.
  • Coordinate with the school and classroom teacher to gather assignments, material and instructional plans.
  • Deliver instruction in the identified core subject as needed.
  • Additional related tasks as discussed with the building principal and/or designee

Physical Activity: The position will require infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing during the normal performance of the tasks and responsibilities. Work may require frequent walking and standing.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an identified public setting or virtual, when approved.

COMPENSATION & WAGE RANGE DISCLOSURE:

Compensation for homebound instruction is paid at the fixed contractual rate of $55.00 per hour, established in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the New Milford Board of Education and the CEA - New Milford. Total pay is calculated based on submitted and approved homebound instruction logs for active student contact hours. BENEFITS & LEAVE ELIGIBILITY:

This position is a part-time/as-needed extra-duty instructional assignment under the CEA agreement:

  • Primary District Teachers: Active full-time CEA bargaining unit members performing homebound instruction retain all contractual health, leave, and TRB retirement benefits accrued through their primary full-time position.
  • External Certified Appointees: External certified educators appointed solely for homebound instruction receive the $55.00/hour rate only and are not eligible for district health insurance or paid leave allotments. Mandatory Connecticut Teachers Retirement System (TRB) contributions apply to eligible instructional earnings pursuant to state law.
