    Job Description:

    Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Hartford Public Schools

    Hartford Public Schools is seeking a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team of dedicated special education professionals. In this role, you will provide direct instruction, consultation, and support to students who are blind or have low vision, helping to ensure they have full access to their education and the tools to thrive.

    What Youll Do:

    • Provide direct instruction in disability-specific skills, including braille literacy, use of assistive technology, and orientation and mobility concepts
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to implement accommodations and modifications outlined in each students IEP
    • Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments to guide instructional planning
    • Advocate for students access needs across the general education curriculum and school environment
    • Partner with the districts special education team to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations

    What Were Looking For:

    • Valid Connecticut certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (or eligibility to obtain certification)
    • Knowledge of braille (UEB) and assistive technology for students with visual impairments
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a student-centered approach to problem-solving
    • Experience working within an IEP framework preferred
