Position Overview:
Milford Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and skilled choral educator to join our middle school arts team as a part-time (.5 FTE) Chorus Teacher. We are committed to growing a vibrant and inclusive choral program and are looking for a candidate who is passionate about middle-level learners, possesses strong piano and vocal skills, and is eager to cultivate a love of singing in students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and lead middle school choral ensembles, including rehearsals and performances.
- Select age-appropriate, diverse repertoire that fosters musical growth and student engagement.
- Accompany choral groups on piano as needed for rehearsals and performances.
- Develop and implement curriculum aligned with state and national music education standards.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with other music educators, staff, and administration to support school-wide arts initiatives and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues to support student success.
- Organize and conduct school concerts and participate in district and regional performance opportunities.
- Actively contribute to recruitment and retention strategies to build the choral program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Music (Choral or Vocal/General).
- Demonstrated piano proficiency, particularly as a rehearsal accompanist.
- Experience working with middle school students and developing choral ensembles.
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
