    Job Description:

    John F. Kennedy Elementary School is looking for a STEM Educator to work directly with students and staff to nurture curiosity, inspire creativity, and provide authentic experiences grounded in the district's model of high-quality instruction. A co-teaching model between the Elementary STEM Educator and the classroom teacher will be utilized to provide a collaborative approach to instruction both in the classroom as well as the STEM lab. As the school's lead scientist, the STEM Educator ensures all students engage in the 'doing' of science en route to acquiring a core body of knowledge, an understanding and appreciation of the nature of the discipline, and the ability to think and reason scientifically in order to make sense of the world around them.

    Minimum Requirement of Elementary Certification (endorsements 001, 003, 013, 305)

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Co-create and enact a common vision and culture for STEM education in Milford Public Schools
    • Collaborate with Instructional Supervisors, other Elementary STEM Educators as well as the middle and high school science departments to ensure a coherent, cohesive, and comprehensive progression towards the actualization of the applicable tenants of the MPS Vision of a Learner
    • Plan and teach lessons that exemplify the features of the district's model of high quality instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers both in and out of the STEM Lab
    • Coordinate use of the STEM lab for all K-5 classes
    • Provide opportunities for family engagement in STEM (i.e. Family STEM Night, Science Expo, Design challenge)
    • Unpack units with classroom teachers/grade level teams
    • Provide professional learning to teachers and administrators in relation to the NGSS, high quality science instruction, and other topics as the need arises. Qualifications are as follows:
    • Certification: Elementary certification endorsement covering grades K-5
    • Minimum of 4 years classroom teaching experience--Current Milford Public Schools Teachers preferred.
    • Deep understanding of the NGSS and best practice in high-quality science instruction
    • Experience leading professional learning
    • Curriculum writing experience preferred
