    HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER

    Position: High School Science Teacher

    Schedule: Full-Time, 10-Month Position

    Reports To: Upper School Dean

    Position Summary

    Highville is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated High School Science Teacher to join our educational team. The successful candidate will create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment while providing rigorous, standards-based science instruction. The teacher will promote critical thinking, scientific literacy, inquiry, and hands-on learning while supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction in high school science.
    • Develop engaging lessons that incorporate inquiry, laboratory experiences, critical thinking, and real-world applications.
    • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
    • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback.
    • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate supports to promote student success.
    • Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and well-managed classroom and laboratory environment.
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievement in accordance with school and district requirements.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
    • Collaborate with science department members, special education staff, support personnel, and other educators to improve student learning.
    • Participate in faculty and department meetings, professional development, and school and district initiatives.
    • Utilize instructional technology and appropriate educational resources to enhance teaching and learning.
    • Supervise students in classrooms, laboratories, hallways, and other school settings as assigned.
    • Follow all district policies, procedures, safety requirements, and professional standards.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
    • Valid or eligible for appropriate Connecticut State Department of Education certification/endorsement for the assigned high school science position.
    • Strong knowledge of science content, curriculum, instructional practices, and laboratory safety.
    • Ability to design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons.
    • Strong classroom management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
    • Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
    • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment and supporting the success of all students.
    • Previous high school teaching experience preferred.
