Job Description:

Ledyard High School is seeking a Special Education Teacher for a full-time position beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This position requires the successful candidate to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, focusing on academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living while cultivating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications:

  • Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement specialized instruction for students based on their needs and abilities as outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and support access to general education
  • Develop and implement with fidelity a behavior incentive program
  • Facilitate case management responsibilities for an assigned group of high school students
  • Demonstrate advanced collaboration and communication skills through partnerships with students, families, school counselors, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators
  • Conduct cognitive evaluations and/or diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending corrective courses of action to minimize barriers and maximize learning.
  • Participate in Planning and Placement Team meetings and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students
  • Demonstrate strong writing ability through composition of thorough evaluation reports and clearly articulated accommodations
  • Assist students and teaching staff in implementing students IEPs and behavior management plans.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping

Salary and Benefits:

  • Per theLedyard Education Association agreement

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
