    POSITION: Special Education Teacher

    LOCATION OF ASSIGNMENT: Center Elementary School

    ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: August 20, 2026

    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

    Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Delivering instruction to students who require specialized instruction in literacy and numeracy
    • Progress monitoring student growth and collaborating with general education team members
    • Conducting evaluations to determine student need and special education eligibility
    • Writing individual education goals
    • Overseeing the work of paraprofessionals to ensure that students are receiving appropriate academic, social and behavioral instruction and interventions
    • Performing other related responsibilities that support the special education needs of students in the school

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Valid Connecticut Certification Comprehensive Special Education, Pre-K-12 (65) or Certification Comprehensive Special Education Grades K-12 (165) or Comprehensive Special Education, 1-12 (265)
    • Experience and knowledge regarding differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices
    • Knowledge of IDEA and the PPT process
    • Knowledge and experience in instruction of reading and mathematics using a variety of specialized resources and programs
    • Provide direct instruction to students in the resource and classroom setting
    • Develop and evaluate measurable goals and objectives
    • Evaluate students as needed using standards based and curriculum based measures
    • Supervise paraprofessionals relative to students on caseload
    • Collaborate with regular and Special Services staff and administrators
    • Establish and maintain frequent communication with parents of students on caseload
