    Bloomfield Public Schools hasan opening for the role of Special Education Teacher at the Elementary school level for the 2026/27 School Year.

    Location: Laurel Literacy Academy

    Salary: Teachers BEA Agreement

    Work Year: Ten-month position (186 days) 7.25 hours/day

    We are seeking a passionate and committed Special Education Teacher to join our Elementary team in a resource and inclusion setting. The ideal candidate will collaborate with general education staff to provide targeted academic and behavioral supports that promote student success in inclusive environments. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that students with diverse learning needs are supported in accessing the general education curriculum and thriving socially, emotionally, and academically.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide specialized instruction in reading, math, and social-emotional learning within general education classrooms and small group settings.
    • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan and implement inclusive practices that meet the needs of all learners.
    • Utilize evidence-based strategies, materials, and assistive technology to support students with IEPs in achieving their goals.
    • Monitor student progress through data collection, progress monitoring, and ongoing collaboration with families and related service providers.
    • Foster strong, supportive relationships with students, families, and staff to create a positive, inclusive school climate.
    • Ensure compliance with IDEA and other relevant special education laws and procedures.
    • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of effective, individualized plans.

    Qualifications/Competencies:

    • Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
    • Knowledge and application of evidence-based instructional and behavioral intervention programs.
    • Special Education certification required.
    • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience preferred, but not required.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

    Certifications/Licenses/Registrations Required:

    • Connecticut certification with the appropriate endorsement for Special Education Teacher 165 or 065 or be immediately eligible for appropriate Connecticut Certification endorsement for Special Education Teacher
