Special Education Teacher

Focus: Self-Contained Functional Skills Instruction

Required Certification: 165

Sample Duties:

Deliver Functional & Life-Skills Academic Instruction: Design and implement individualized instruction focused on functional academics, independent living skills, and pre-vocational training, tailoring lessons to meet the unique, intensive needs of students within a self-contained setting.

Cultivate Behavioral & Social-Emotional Growth: Develop and enforce positive behavior support plans, teach functional communication, and foster social-emotional learning to maximize student independence and community integration.

Manage Case Load & Compliance: Serve as the primary case manager for a designated roster of students, including tracking progress, writing comprehensive IEPs, and facilitating annual review meetings.

Lead and Direct Classroom Support Staff: Supervise, train, and collaborate with classroom paraprofessionals to ensure consistent implementation of instructional strategies, behavior plans, and data collection methods across all daily routines.

Collaborate & Communicate: Maintain proactive, ongoing communication with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to ensure unified support for student success.

Salary per Branford Education Association Contract:

$56,974 - $113,513 pending degree level

Start Date: August 2026
