Job Description:
Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Special Education teacher for our Ledyard Transition Academy (LTA) program for the 26-27 school year.
The Special Education Teacher at Ledyard Transition Academy (LTA) is responsible for the development and implementation of community-based transition programming and instruction for students with disabilities ages 18-21 as delineated in their IEPs.
Qualifications:
- Connecticut Special Education Certification required (165, 065 or 265)
- Special education teaching experience preferred
- Valid CT drivers license
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, related service providers, support staff, and other stakeholders, including students and parents/guardians
- Ability to develop and implement standards-based Individual Education plans (IEPs), with a focus on transition planning in the areas of post-secondary education, employment, and independent living
- Knowledge of Connecticut Core Transition Skills
- Knowledge of, or ability to develop an understanding of local and state resources related to transition services; collaboration with appropriate agencies as required
- Ability to assist in the development and implementation of transition-based programming and curriculum aligned with the Connecticut CORE Transition Skills
- Work collaboratively with community partners to develop and maintain job site opportunities
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians and all stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to write accurate and thorough assessment reports and progress reports
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of scheduling, organization, time management, and problem solving
- Supervision and training of job coaches and program staff
- Ability to positively engage students in the learning process, particularly in the area of transition
- Ability to use data to make instructional decisions to improve student outcomes and for progress monitoring purposes
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust ones tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
- Position requires physical movement and walking throughout the day within the community, including entering and exiting transportation vehicles
